The Moslem call to worship wakes us on our final day in Malawi.   The hotel clerk’s son drives us to the airport in his luxury car.
We arrive at the airport early  & peruse the gift shops. This takes only minutes because there is virtually no souvenir industry in this beautiful country.  There are NO postcards & just a few t-shirts for sale.  In fact, life in the northlands of Malawi is so tied to subsistence, there was little to spend our money on.  Of course in the city, there are “tourist traps” & luxury items, but life here is
still inexpensive when you base it on western incomes.  We are left with quite a bit of local currency.
It is hard to imagine our consumer based life back in the United States, but I know we will quickly acclimate.
We left the farm 2 days ago –to travel approximately 250 miles to the airport.  It will be another 24 hours before we arrive home…we stop in Kenya & again in the Netherlands before we finally fly to America and home.
