Here we are south
of the Equator – it’s July & winter. Nights are cold –
sometimes there’s even frost! We
have a fire every night. The
days are bright, cool & clear. The guide book says grassland birding is good this time of
year, especially for bustards!
In August temperatures will rise &, according to legend, winter will be over when the blue swallows arrive for breeding. Herds of eland & antelope return to the high plateaus.
Nyika
Through the Year…
By October, Nyika’s
hottest month, daytime temperatures reach 26C. Game viewing, birding & flowers are at their
best & the first
orchids appear. There may be 1-2
thunderstorms during the month.
By December the rains will start, but January & February are the wettest months - the grassland is
green. Herds break into smaller groups & hippos move toward
the river. The rainfall is constant.
